While in large parts of Germany the weather was cloudy and somewhat gloomy, at Alexander Schleicher’s company airfield in Poppenhausen, Germany, a sunny window over the Rhön Mountains was sufficient for the first AS 33 flight.
On 23 January 2020, at around 11:30 local time the AS 33 lifted off for the first time with Managing Director Uli Kremer at the controls.
During the flight, he thoroughly checked and tested all features of the new glider, including the Return-To-Home engine with the electric starter.
Three additional flights were performed successfully before the day was concluded.
